Network apologizes for scare, but Boston officials not accepting

BOSTON -- The chairman of Turner Broadcasting is apologizing for a marketing campaign that the company says was "mistaken for a public danger" in Boston.

Phil Kent says the company is aware of the gravity of the situation and notified law enforcement officials as soon as it realized that electronic signs placed around the city were creating terrorism fears.

The devices promoted the cultish TV show "Aqua Teen Hunger Force," which airs on Turner's Cartoon Network. Characters in the show include a talking milkshake and aliens who live on the moon.

Turner said the signs had been in place for two to three weeks in Boston and nine other cities.

Boston officials appear in no mood to accept the company's apology. Mayor Tom Menino says it cost the city about 750-thousand dollars to respond to yesterday's scare and he'll use every legal tool at his disposal to recover the costs.
