Good Samaritan saves residents from fire in Attleboro

ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Six South Attleboro residents are happy to be alive Tuesday after a stranger alerted them of an early morning New Year's fire that ignited their residence.

Officials are working to determine the cause of the fire, which they believe could have been caused by some kind of explosive device.

According to the residents, a man driving on nearby Interstate 95 spotted the fire from the highway and drove to the house at 15 Allen St. The man honked his horn until the residents finally awoke around 5:30 a.m.

Two of the residents said the Good Samaritan also called 911 to alert officials to the fire. Officials have the man's contact information and are trying to reach him.

Police and fire officials are investigating the fire. They said the blaze began in a parked car in front of the home. Officials are checking to see if someone used an explosive device to trigger the blaze.

The home and a nearby pickup truck were completely destroyed.
