CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- One person was killed and two others seriously injured in a multi-car crash involving an environmental clean-up crew on Route 3 Tuesday morning.

Authorities said that Juanita McKenzie, 33, of Lowell, was driving partially in the break-down lane on Route 3 North, when her vehicle struck the rear of a truck that was parked inside a work site set-up.

Two workers for an environmental company who were cleaning up fuel on the highway from an accident last week were pinned between her SUV and their truck.

Massachusetts State Police said McKenzie also struck another vehicle after pinning the two men.

Anderson Cadell Jr., 44, of Seabrook, N.H., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Salvatore Pintone, 30, of Lynnfield was flown to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. McKenzie also sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.

The three-vehicle crash shut down Route 3 North for close to three hours near Exit 31 in Chelmsford. Traffic was backed up beyond I-495.

The southbound side was shut down for almost a half hour while a medical helicopter landed on the highway.

All lanes have since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation by State Police. No charges have been filed at this time.

The identities of the two road workers are being withheld pending proper family notification.
