BOSTON -- Millions of people across the country are heading home tonight from grandma's house.

Traffic has been busy in and around Boston, but so far it's not as jammed as Wednesday.

Thousands of turkey-stuffed travelers were expected to fly through Logan Airport today, one of the busiest travel days of the year. Massport predicted about 95,000 people would come through Logan International Airport on Sunday.

On the roads, volume was also up, with the Interstate 95-495 interchange expected to see significant congestion.

“Coming onto I-90 there’s a lot of traffic, and then down on 95,” said Andrew Vincello, a holiday traveler, of the traffic conditions.

MassDOT suspended highway construction projects in anticipation of the heavy holiday traffic.

“All of the signs were still up, so people are still cautious, they don’t know when to slow down,” said Julia Feiring, a traveler, of road work signs on highways.

According to AAA, more people preferred driving over flying, with automobile travel up 2.9 percent from last year.

While many spent the holidays much closer to home to save money, travelers said they were still prepared to deal with delays.

“Just relax and make sure you’ve got plenty of fuel in your tank,” said Art Assantes, a traveler, on coping with the holiday traffic.

As busy as this weekend has been, tomorrow is expected to be even busier. Authorities are advising travelers to add 30 minutes to when they would normally leave the house.
