LOWELL, Mass. -- The teenage driver responsible for hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a 12-year-old boy will face additional charges.

Michelle Medeiros, 17, of Methuen has already been cited for leaving the scene of an accident.

Police said she hit the boy while he was in a crosswalk. Four new charges filed against her include negligence and speeding.

The victim, Kelvin Savanhmixay, underwent facial surgery Wednesday and returned home on Thanksgiving.

"It's the greatest feeling, after what we've been through at least, He's home with the family. I thought he was never going to come back home to me," said Dao Savanhmixay, the boy's mother.

The accident happened November 18 on the VFW highway in Lowell. The teenage driver allegedly left the scene, went to a hair appointment, and then to school the next day while her father allegedly tried to have the car repaired.

Medeiros is awaiting a court date.

All of the charges up to this point have dealt with the traffic accident, but officials told the family the investigation into the alleged cover-up continues.
