RYE, N.H. -- Police in Rye, N.H., continue to investigate allegations that a nanny stole money, antiques and jewelry from her employer, left the children home alone and then crashed her car while drunk driving.

Thirty-five-year-old Susanne Swanson of Portsmouth was charged with driving while intoxicated Wednesday. She has not been charged with theft, but police say she is the main subject of interest. Chief Kevin Walsh says items stolen from the home were found in Swanson's car.

Walsh says the children's mother had to leave the house unexpectedly and asked a neighbor to check on Swanson and the children. When the neighbor got there, Swanson was on her way out without the two children.
