Plymouth paratrooper laid to rest
PLYMOUTH, Mass. -- Funeral services were held on Friday for a Plymouth soldier who died in Afghanistan.
Army paratrooper Benjamin Sherman, 21, was laid to rest Friday morning at the Manomet Cemetery in Plymouth. A full military honor guard escorted the casket to the church via horse-drawn carriage.
Gov. Deval Patrick and Sen. John Kerry joined numerous veterans at Sherman’s memorial services.
"He has a young wife, a baby on the way. I just feel very sad," said Terry Wheeler, a war veteran who attended the services.
Sherman, a 2006 graduate of Plymouth South High School, was killed in early November while trying to save a comrade who had been swept away by strong river currents. He leaves behind a wife, Patricia, who is five and a half months pregnant.
