Girl, 14, pulled from Dorchester blaze
BOSTON -- A 14-year-old girl is in stable condition after being pulled from a burning home in Dorchester.
The two-alarm fire broke out at 85 Evans Street just before 5 p.m. on Thursday.
A young woman ran into the street screaming.
Lt. Michael Sameski and Bobby Dillon were two of the first responders on Engine 16 to respond to the scene.
"They told us their babies were in there, that their kids were in there, so we didn't know how many were in there," Dillon said.
"We crawled down the first floor and she was at the bottom of a flight of stairs there, unconscious," Sameski said.
Sameski and firefighter Mike Ahern performed CPR on the 14-year-old special needs girl for two to three minutes to revive her.
"In retrospect, I can tell you it's a good feeling, 'cause I've been to fires where it didn't work out so well," Dillon said.
This is the second child that Sameski has pulled from a fire in the last two years. He rescued a 6-year-old from a burning Mattapan home in 2007.
A teenage boy and adult female were also transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. A firefighter with an injury to his hand was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Fire officials said a short circuit in the basement started an electrical fire.
