North Attleborough remembers fallen Marine

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. -- A Massachusetts town is honoring a fallen Marine.

A public candlelight vigil in memory of Marine helicopter pilot Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen is scheduled for Thursday night in North Attleborough.

The vigil is being held at Community Field, where the 29-year-old Van De Giesen led the local high school football team to so many victories. The team's former starting quarterback helped lead North Attleborough High to a state championship in 1997.

A funeral service at St. Mary's Church and processional around the town are scheduled for Friday, to be followed by burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Van De Giesen died Oct. 26 in a helicopter crash. He leaves behind his pregnant wife and an 18-month-old daughter.
