Valet parking attendant foils carjacking
BOSTON -- An attempted carjacking was foiled by a quick thinking valet parking attendant.
The incident happened in a parking garage at 55 Province Street Monday night.
Barbara Pero was walking to her car after a visit with her grandchildren when she said a man tried to steal her car and her purse..
A parking attendant heard Pero's screams.
"I got in the car and all of a sudden this guy jumped in the car on top of me," Person said. "He rammed me in the head and then all of a sudden the knife appeared and he jabbed me. He pushed me over and he said just keep quiet or I'll kill you," Pero said.
Pero fought back scratching at his eyes and pleading for him to spare her.
The valet took action, running after the suspect who took off on foot with Pero's purse when he couldn't get her car started.
"One of my guys ended up chasing him down the street, hitting him with an umbrella," said Steve Larkin, the parking garage manager. "And the cops pulled him over and arrested him."
Richard Morse, 48, was arrested and charged with carjacking, assault and other related offenses.
"This was a savage attack, a random attack on a woman who was visiting a family member," said prosecutor Gregory Henning.
The 61-year-old said she will still go to Boston to babysit her grandkids and is glad Morse was caught so no one has to go through what she survived.
"I feel like I'm a very lucky person. I got my handbag back, my car back...I got my life back and I'm very blessed," Pero said.
