Boy killed while trick-or-treating in New Hampshire
PELHAM, N.H. -- A 10-year-old boy was killed after a birch tree snapped and struck him Saturday evening.
The victim, 10-year-old Christian Gaultieri, was out with a group of friends trick-or-treating on Saturday night, when he was struck by a falling birch tree around 6:30 p.m. at Fineview Circle in Pelham.
The Pelham native was in cardiac arrest when he was rushed to a hospital Saturday night, authorities said. He died later that night.
Officals said there was no indication that the tree, which sat on private property, was a danger.
Wind gusts Saturday night reached 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service
A collection of flowers, stuffed animals, and heartfelt messages mark the site of the tragedy.
"I just can't imagine...just the thought, of just losing a child. It's just such a, a terrible tragedy," said one parent.
Gualtieri did not go to school in Pelham, but many of his friends did, which prompted the elementary school there to set up a grief program for Monday morning.
