3 Dorchester schools put on safe mode

BOSTON -- Three public schools went into safe mode Thursday morning in Dorchester while police searched a gunman in a drive-by shooting.

The shooting took place around 8:30 a.m. on Geneva Avenue.

It appears that the shooting caused one vehicle to crash into another, sending one person to the hospital.

The three schools, Jeremiah E. Burke School on Washington Street; Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School on Columbia Road; and the John P. Holland Elementary School on Olney Street went into "safe mode" while police searched for the gunman.

The schools are no longer in safe mode.
