2 arrested after similar robberies
DEDHAM, Mass. -- Two local banks inside Stop & Shop Supermarkets were robbed one hour apart Sunday and the crimes were originally thought to be connected.
It now appears the similar robberies were just coincidental after Dedham Police arrested 42-year-old James Wilcox, formerly of Dedham, and 30-year-old Nicholas Cunha, of Charlestown for unarmed robbery.
Cunha is believed to be the person that slipped a note to a teller in the Dedham incident, demanding money and saying he had a gun.
Wilcox is said to have been his driver.
"The vehicle information was passed along to our detectives and they had had some prior dealings with (Wilcox)," Dedham Police Lt. Bob Nedder said. "That led to his apprehension."
About an hour later, another Citizens Bank at 301 Newbury St. in Danvers was held up.
The Citizens Bank at the Danvers Plaza was said to have been robbed by a white male, aged 50-55 years-old, wearing a gray Red Sox sweatshirt and a navy-colored Red Sox visor.
"I heard the teller calling police and she was looking for a manager and apparently the guy had slipped her a note," said Stop & Shop employee William Parcellin. "It was probably the same guy. I mean he got away and the cops are probably finding him now. But they got a good picture of him on the video."
An undetermined amount of cash was stolen and there were no reports of injuries.
Police are continuing their investigation.
