Workers laid off by Hyatt protest job cuts

BOSTON -- More than 100 hotel workers gathered in Boston Thursday night to protest job cuts.

All three of the Hyatt hotels in the city laid off workers two weeks ago.

They brought in a third party company and asked the former employees to train the newcomers.

One former employee said it's not just fair.

"It's very heartbreaking, you know, you just put people out of jobs, you know, look at the economy in these times, you cannot put people out of their job, you know, just to save a buck. It's really unfair," said a former Hyatt employee.

Mayor Thomas Menino said the job cuts "fly in the face of what Boston is all about."

The Hyatt released a statement Thursday evening reading IN PART, “We are providing the affected associates with assistance, including severance and outplacement counseling. Hyatt is committed to treating our employees with honesty and respect.”
