Driver accused of striking dad in court
BOSTON -- The driver accused of injuring a father as he put his child into a car seat in Brighton and leaving the scene was in court Thursday.
Police said Cathy Birgen-August, 47, of Watertown, did not stop after hitting the man at Cambridge Street and Gordon Street just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said Birgen-August drove down the street until witnesses blocked her in.
Investigators said they found prescription medication was found on the driver.
She pleaded not guilty to charges of negligent operation and leaving the scene of an accident in Brighton District Court on Thursday and was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail.
The victim, a 35-year-old man, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious head trauma.
