Girl, 5, severely burned in South End backyard
BOSTON -- A 5-year-old girl was seriously burned while making s'mores.
A night of summer fun in the South End turned into a night in the hospital for a young girl who suffered second and third degree burns.
Fire officials said a family on Bradford Street was using an illegal fire pit in their backyard to make s'mores.
The 5-year-old got too close and her dress caught on fire.
Her father tried to pat out the flames, but he too suffered significant burns.
A fire official said the young girl was burned from her mouth down to her thighs, both on her torso and her back.
The girl is at Massachusetts General Hospital. There is no word on her condition.
