Mass. companies fined for environmental violations
BOSTON -- A Massachusetts real estate developer and its management company have been ordered to pay $227,500 for failing to properly dispose of hazardous wastes while building a North Attleboro condominium complex.
A federal administrative law judge found Brookline-based Blackinton Commons LLC and CG2 Inc. failed to properly identify 212 tons of hazardous waste while converting a former jewelry manufacturing facility into a condominium complex.
The hazardous waste -- including arsenic, lead, silver, chromium and cadmium -- was sent to a landfill that was not authorized to deal with such material.
The companies' defense attorney, Robert D. Cox, Jr., did not immediately respond to an Associated Press message left after office hours.
The state Department of Environmental Protection is also pursuing action against the developer for violating Massachusetts environmental regulations.
