High school principal ousted for tampering with students grades

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Sudents at a Springfield high school were allowed to graduate despite not completing all their required school work.

Ten seniors were just one credit short, but the principal let them walk.

The principal has been fired, but it has come out that it is not the first time he has been accused of tampering with grades.

Springfield superintendent, Allen Ingrahm, said he will not tolerate cheating and impropriety in Springfield schools.

In fact, he is mad, and he is not going to take it anymore. That is why he relieved High School of Commerce principal, Steven Collins, of his duties.

According to an internal investigation, Collins allegedly authorized or approved the graduation of ten seniors, who were one credit short of completing their requirements.

"I think that is probably good he got fired, but at the same time nowadays the system has gotten a little harder," said one parent .

"I think it's fair, though we don't know how much time this has been going on," said a concerned parent.

Doctor allen ingrahm said the 10 seniors who failed to complete their graduation requirements will finish their coursework online on Saturdays, at night, or summer classes.

"I definitely think it's appropriate that he got fired. you can't break the rules like that. I'm a graduate of High School of Commerce, so anything that's going on there really touches me," said a former student.

Collins was previously ousted from Quabog Middle and High School in 2006, for allegedly tampering with a student's grades.
