Man charged with punching horse

PROVINCETOWN, Mass. -- A Cape Cod teenager has been charged with punching a police horse during Independence Day festivities in Provincetown.

Police tell the Cape Cod Times that 18-year-old Christopher McEnaney of Orleans was arrested Saturday night and charged with assault on a police horse and resisting arrest after he allegedly punched the horse from the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office.

Police say McEnaney struck the horse in the flank at about 10:20 p.m. while the mounted patrol was in the area of Ryder and Commercial streets. The animal was not hurt.

McEnaney is scheduled to be arraigned in Orleans District Court on Monday.

Police arrested 14 people during the celebrations, mostly for disorderly conduct.
