BSO opens Tanglewood with Tchaikovsky concert

LENOX, Mass. -- Music lovers are hoping the clouds will part in time for the opening of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Tanglewood season.

Opening night at the Koussevitzky Music Shed in Lenox is set for Friday, featuring an all-Tchaikovsky program led by BSO conductor James Levine (Le-VINE').

It's Levine's fifth summer as the orchestra's music director.

Earlier this week, more than a dozen BSO musicians ran a 150-mile relay from Symphony Hall in Boston to Tanglewood to publicize the start of the summer season.

The season runs through the end of August, closing with several concerts featuring James Taylor.
