Commuter tries to pass off dummy as passenger
BOSTON -- A local commuter is accused of pulling a fast one.
State Police said a dummy was the right-hand man for someone trying to beat the morning rush illegally.
A state trooper spotted a Cadillac Escalade in the HOV lane of the southeast Expressway Tuesday.
"He observed a passenger in the car that looked like a mannequin, so the vehicle was stopped, and our suspicions were confirmed and the operator, a 52-year-old man from Norwell had a mannequin beside him," said Michael Popovics, of the Massachusetts State Police
The driver had put some time into prepping the dummy for his ride into the city.
"It was a man-made mannequin, he had a vest on, a jacket on, a hat and a beard," Popovics said.
However, it is against the law to try and pass off a dummy as a passenger in the carpool lane.
The driver was slapped with a $50 ticket.
State troopers want to make it clear that the HOV lane is for cars with two or more human passengers from 6 to 10 a.m. and then from 4 to 7 p.m.
