Students claim food poisoning came from prom dinner
BOSTON -- Some local high school students claim that they brought home more than memories from their senior prom.
Nearly 100 students at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School said that they got food poisoning from the dinner served at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.
"I woke up and I was having diarrhea in the morning, unfortunately. I wound up going to lacrosse and I was throwing up during the entire game and had to go to the hospital," said Ryan Sutherland, a student who got sick after prom.
That was two days after the prom at Boston's Park Plaza Hotel.
"I don't want to blame the chicken, but if everyone who got sick ate the chicken, I think that could be the cause," Sutherland said.
A statement from the hotel acknowledges the students reporting vomiting, diarrhea and fever, but said no other guest's reported getting sick.
The statement went on, "The origin of the illness has yet to be determined and the hotel is cooperating fully with state and local health officials to determine the cause, including preserving any food that was served at the event that remains on property for testing."
"It was really bad timing. Graduation was kind of a mess. Kids felt really sick during graduation," Sutherland said.
Boston Inspectional Services, Health Division-Food Inspection Services, filed a report based on an inspection conducted at The Boston Park Plaza Hotel Tuesday. According to the report, the hotel passed the inspection and "All food safety and sanitation procedures excellent." There were no violations.
Students who were sick are feeling better.
