Mihos plans to run for Mass. gov as a Republican

BOSTON -- Christy Mihos, who ran for governor of Massachusetts as an independent candidate in 2006, says he'll run as a Republican in 2010.

The Cape Cod resident and owner of a convenience store chain who was vice chairman of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority from 1999 to 2004, says Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick and the Democrat-controlled Legislature are hurting the state by proposing higher taxes and cutting local aid.

Mihos, who first announced his intention to run last summer, garnered 7 percent of the vote in 2006, but expects to do better in 2010.

He tells The Boston Globe that the people of Massachusetts are looking for "a responsible businessperson" who will bring "responsible reforms."

Patrick has said he intends to seek a second term.
