Man charged with killing blind aunt in Plainville

WRENTHAM, Mass. -- A man accused of fatally stabbing his aunt in the Plainville home they shared has been ordered held without bail.

Randall Carpeno, 41, pleaded not guilty to a murder charge Tuesday in Wrentham District Court.

Police say he stabbed his aunt April Mackie, 56, then put her body in a closet.

District Attorney William Keating says the suspect's friend from Texas alerted local police.

He says police who went to the apartment for a well-being check on Mackie were turned away by Carpeno, who said his aunt was not at home. The body was discovered Monday night.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for April 29.
