Two teens robbed by men impersonating police officers

RAYNHAM, Mass. -- Police are hoping surveillance footage can help them find two men who impersonated police officers and robbed two teens.

Surveillance cameras at the Raynham Wal-Mart caught two teens being hauled out of their car, roughed up and robbed by two men who said they were police officers.

"You don't fight back, you don't do anything, you go along with the program with the police and you get snookered, you get tricked, you get humiliated and these guys get bounced around," said Chief Louis Pacheco, of the Raynham Police Department.

The tape shows the two men get out of a black SUV and approach the other car.

Police said the pair asked the teens inside, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old from Bridgewater and Berkley, if they want to buy marijuana.

When the teens said no, they flashed their wallets like badges and said they were undercover cops.

Other Wal-Mart shoppers are saying they will be extra careful now.

"When you have someone impersonating officer it's almost like you have to come up with different system that will recognize them as police officers other than I'm a cop," said Diane Buckley, a shopper.

Police are worried this will undermine people's faith in real officers.

"It goes to the core of trust between police and people," Pacheco said.

They got away with cell phones, wallets and an ipod. They will be charged with unarmed robbery and impersonating a police officer if they are caught.
