Paula Rauch, MD, MGH Child Psychiatrist and Founder of the Parenting at a Challenging Time (PACT) program.
Dr. Rauch will offer advice to parents who need support in talking with their children about illness and keeping kids emotionally healthy while one parent battles a chronic or life threatening disease. One out of four adults diagnosed with cancer is the parent of a child under age 18, and millions of parents with young children are living with heart disease, HIV/AIDS, rheumatoid arthritis, MS, diabetes, traumatic brain injury and other conditions.

Geralyn Lucas, Author of Lifetime TV's “Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy”.
Geralyn Lucas is a dynamic and inspirational woman. Diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 27, she turned her personal victory over cancer into the book and Lifetime original movie, Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy in which she details her internal struggle with womanhood after her mastectomy, and the soul searching she had to do to feel whole again.

Ms. Lucas is now sharing with women around the country, the courageous and uplifting attitude with which she approached her own battle with this disease. Much of her spare time away from her job as Director of Public Affairs at Lifetime Television is devoted to encouraging women to have regular mammograms, and to know that they are not alone if they are fighting breast cancer.

COMETS, Casuality Training Simulator.
See video of COMETS, a self-contained autonomous full-body casualty simulator being developed to the specifications of the Army Medical Department Center and School. COMETS is a stand-alone training simulator that allows medics to train in a variety of time-sensitive, multiple location situations. VIRGIL Trauma Training Simulator.
Learn about one of the most common medical procedures doctors need to know in trauma medicine. Whether on the battlefield, in the hospital or at the site of an accident, doctors save lives by inserting a chest tube when the patient is not breathing. By using this physiologically realistic mannequin, first responders can learn the skills they need to properly insert a chest tube. VIRGIL won the Army’s Top Ten Greatest Inventions Award in 2003. The right stretches and strengthening exercises can prevent some of the most common sports injuries. Members of Mass General's Department of Orthopedics Sports Medicine Center and the Sports Physical Therapy Service will provide tips for the prevention and management of common injuries like back pain, tennis elbow, and rotator cuff tendonitis from throwing. Advances in Marathon Medicine: Lessons from the Boston Marathon Finish Line Medical Tent.
Partners HealthCare researchers have identified a new mechanism for exercise-associated hyponatremia, which caused the death of runner Cynthia Lucero during the 2002 Boston Marathon. McLean physician Arthur J. Siegel, MD, will educate attendees about how their findings are improving strategies for prevention and treatment of this complication.
