That Makes Cents reports

Saving money doesn't have to be a chore. There are ways to keep cash in your pockets without drastically changing your life.

Be honest with yourself.

Michael Rubin, Financial Expert and "Beyond Paycheck to Paycheck" Author
"Being honest about expenses means understanding first and foremost what's truly a want and what is actually a need. Everyone's got to eat, so eating is a need, but eating out is a want."

Connect emotionally with your money by only using cash.

Michael Rubin, Financial Expert and "Beyond Paycheck to Paycheck" Author
"When you're spending cash you actually feel the pain. You don't actually feel anything negative about a credit until you get the bill. And it's the lag between pain and the spending that allows you to spend more with credit cards."

And remember, you don't always need a budget.

Michael Rubin, Financial Expert and "Beyond Paycheck to Paycheck" Author
"Constant budgeting is kind of like a crash diet. It works for a little bit of time, but then it doesn't allow for the things that happen in the real world. And the time I do recommend budgeting is when you're about to make a major expense, when you're going to go buy a car or you're going to go buy a house."

Now that makes cents.
