In the never-ending search for the fountain of youth - some believe they've found a key. It's being touted as the most potent antioxidant to hit the market yet. 7's Amy Johnson puts it to the test to see if it can "Wipe Away Wrinkles."

It's no secret that many people want younger looking skin-- and now some believe the answer is this cream--called Prevage.

The active ingredient in Prevage is an antioxidant called idebenone and is made by Allergan - the same company that makes Botox. They say it smoothes out fine lines and evens out skin tone and repairs skin damage.

Joseph Lewis II, CEO, Pharma Cosmetix Research
"Idebenone is the most potent antioxidant that we've tested to date."

In a recent independent study, Prevage was tested against 5 other antioxidants and it far exceeded expectations.

Joseph Lewis II, Pharma Cosmetix Research
"It out performed all of those popular antioxidants."

Boston-area dermatologist Dr. Thomas Rohrer says he's a little skeptical:

Dr. Thomas Rohrer, Skincare Physicians of Chestnut Hill
"The company claims a lot and there is a lot of buzz about it but there are not a lot of studies done in humans so we don't really know a lot about it."

And wants to see more first hand data. So with his help we decided to put it to the test and asked four women of to try it out.

33-year-old Beth Strachan of Hingham:

Beth Strachan, Tried Prevage
"I'd like to see some reduction of fine lines around my eyes and maybe to even out my skin tone a little."

48-year-old Faith Derderian of Boston:

Faith Derderian, Tried Prevage
"I've been told to put it on at night, just once a day."

49-Year-Old Wanda Dickinson of Salem:

Wanda Dickinson, Tried Prevage
"I feel very positive. I'm a firm believer in antioxidants."

And 56-year-old Marcene Griffin of Centerville:

Marcene Griffin, Tried Prevage
"I didn't think I was ready for plastic surgery or anything so when I heard about this I was very excited."

Each woman was asked to use the Prevage every night for about 6 weeks at the half way point - two of the women say they see a change and the other two are not so sure.

Beth Strachan, Tried Prevage
"I can't really see it, but if other people can see it maybe they're a better judge."

Faith Derderian, Tried Prevage
"I'm a little less optimistic now that I have been using it for three weeks but I didn't expect it to have a dramatic difference so even if there's a subtle improvement, I'll be satisfied."

Marcene Griffin, Tried Prevage
"My wrinkles are still there but I think my skin on the whole just looks better."

Wanda Dickinson, Tried Prevage
"I feel the freckling has faded a great deal and just the overall texture has improved."

And five and a half weeks later, we are back in the doctor's office for the final comparison

Dr. Thomas Rohrer, Skincare Physicians of Chestnut Hill
"I am a little more impressed with Prevage that it is actually seems to be doing something."

So what do our test patients think?

Beth Strachan, Tried Prevage
"I would think a dream cream would do a lot more and I'd see much more visible results."

Wanda Dickinson, Tried Prevage
"I have noticed a change in my skin texture and tone."

Faith Derderian, Tried Prevage
"I honestly have not seen a change but my 7-year-old son says he sees a 1% difference."

Marcene Griffin, Tried Prevage
"I feel now I see some more improvement but not as much as a saw in the first three weeks."

Dr. Rohrer says in all four patients.

Dr. Thomas Rohrer, Skincare Physicians of Chestnut Hill
"I've seen something that's better."

And he suspects overtime the results will improve and hopefully also prevent future damage.

Prevage is available without a prescription in a doctor's office. It costs about $100 dollars.
