Some local students are going on assignment to Washington, D.C. for an historic event. They'll be there to report on every step of President-Elect Barack Obama's inaugural parade. And as 7's Matt Lorch shows, you'll be able to keep track of their work from the comfort of your home.

As the country prepares for President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration, students from Worcester Academy are preparing for the big day, too.

Joshua Lopez, Worcester Academy Student
"What I'm looking forward to the most is being able to share my experiences with everyone here."

Eleven students will travel to D.C. and use technology, including ipods, cameras and computers, to cover the event and update their classmates back home. They will create blogs, podcasts and upload photos.

Joshua Lopez, Worcester Academy Student
"When it comes to cell phones and ipods those are things that I would never really think we'd use for educational purposes, but they found a way to use them so we can show everyone what's going on."

The students will share their information on different websites for everyone to see.

Rebecca Wefald, Worcester Academy Student
"All this information is going to becoming so quickly it'll almost be like our classmates are there with us."

Teachers say it's a way of using today's technology to teach.

David Bill, Director of Academic Technology, Worcester Academy
"It's an opportunity for students to become a part of the conversation and to feel as though they're not just students, but they are taken seriously."

A chance to watch to make their own history as they watch history in the making.

Rebecca Wefald, Worcester Academy Student
"Instead of reading a textbook for history we are going to experience it. That's so much different."

During the event the students will chat online with their classmates in Worcester by using Skype so that they can provide live updates.
