Room For Improvement reports

It's time to transform an outdated living room inside a century old home. Our design team heads to Bedford to give the room a boost into the present. 7’s Lauren Przybyl has today's "Room For Improvement."

There's a lot of history inside this old Bedford home.

Robin Gath, homeowner
"Lived here all my life."

And it's belonged to Robin's family for more than 100 years.

Robin Gath, homeowner
"Built in the 1800s."

But this room, meant to be a dining area, hasn't kept up with the times.

Charlie Gath, homeowner
"We never even go in there. It's just a pass through to the other rooms in the house."

The family wants it to be brighter and more livable.

Robin Gath, homeowner
"More of a living space, somewhere that we can entertain."

Designer Lisey Good is here give this space a face-lift!

Lisey Good, Good Interiors
"The challenge with this room was the fact that it's a young family living in this really old charming house."

The outdated wallpaper is replaced with neutral paint.

Lisey Good, Good Interiors
"The wall colors are very traditional sort of historic colors."

Then modern furniture, a contemporary rug, and a flat screen TV give the room a fresh, young look, while traditional accents balance the design.

Lisey Good, Good Interiors
"I also used wrought iron fixtures for the lighting fixture and for the curtain rods because I felt that was appropriate for the age of the house."

Robin's blue and white pottery, displayed on a new shelf, gives the room an old New England touch. And family photos make this space homier.

More blue accessories add simple, classic color to the area and a clever idea saves money on new artwork.

Lisey Good, Good Interiors
"I took a piece of wrapping paper from an art store and I scanned it into a computer. And I blew it up to different sizes and then framed it."

Is this room ready for the next generation?

Robin Gath, homeowner
"Wow. I'm speechless."

That reaction says it all. The cost for this classic yet comfy room was $4000.
