Room For Improvement: Baby boy's nursery
It's time to make room for baby. Our design team heads to Somerville to help some parents-to-be prepare for their bundle of joy. 7’s Lauren Przybyl has today's "Room For Improvement."
Mommy and daddy to be, Christine and Todd, are excited about the little one who's on the way.
Todd Parker, homeowner
"We're just looking forward to starting our new life together with our new little baby boy."
But before baby bliss, they need to turn this spare room into the perfect place for their bundle of joy.
Christine Fichera, homeowner
"I'd love to see a nice, clean, modern look in the room, that's still fun, so that as the baby gets older the room can continue to grow and change with him."
Designer Melanie Murphy arrives with lots of ideas for a newborn's nursery.

"The inspiration for the room came from this bedding."
It influenced the teal color painted by Michael McManus.
Michael McManus, McManus Painting
"The color has a certain amount of depth. It goes well with the white trim and the lime accents."
Then a tasteful contemporary tree is added to make the walls pop.
Neil Clapp, Imagine Decorative Paintworks
"We pulled the idea from the fabric of the leaves and then the fruit, the pears, are in the fabric as well."
A custom-made dresser doubles as a changing table. It helps store lots of diapers now, but...
Crystal Raadmae, Closet Classics of Andover
"The baskets or drawers can later be removed to later be used as a desk or as an additional piece of furniture."
And a three tier hanging system they built into the closet adds extra storage to hang little clothes, but can mature just as fast as the child.
Crystal Raadmae, Closet Classics of Andover
"Adjust the rod and shelf and make it into a double hang system so then the child can also grow into the closet."
No nursery is complete without the perfect chair to rock a baby to sweet dreams.
Melanie Murphy, Redecorating By Melanie
"It was a piece that the family had used in the living room and we're able to recover the cushions and add a pretty lime green made out of a very durable fabric that will last a lifetime."
Then come some traditional touches like cute art and whimsical rugs.
But does this room look perfect for a bouncing baby boy?
Christine Fichera, homeowner
"Oh my God, this is perfect."
Todd Parker, homeowner
"This is amazing! So cool."
Christine Fichera, homeowner
"This is exactly, exactly, exactly what I would dream of."
This nicely done nursery cost about $6000. But now this couple can relax and get ready for their baby boy who's due in a few weeks.
