Room For Improvement: Charlestown extra room
There's no more looking for lost supplies after our designers help transform a cluttered mess into a colorful artist's work haven.
Ladies and gentleman, this is Katie Atchley. She's a fun-loving, creative woman, who loves bright colors, but one room in her house is bringing her down.
Katie Atchley, homeowner
"I've lived here for 11 years, and I realized I never came to grips with my second bedroom. It was always my junk room."
In this room, there are bags of boots, pocketbooks and hats of every kind.
Her cats' kitty liter is out in the open, and it's almost impossible for her to find her art supplies.
It's time to bring a little organization to this space, and to help out, Dawn Link with Resolutions is called in.
These two women are ready to tackle the space together.
Katie Atchley, homeowner
"I wanted the room to become like an art studio."
Our organizer says if you have a room like this, the first thing you should do is group similar things together.
All of Katie's material is nicely folded, paints are put together in clear cylinders and the glitter has now got a home as well.
Dawn Link, Resolutions
"So, let's stack these up here."
For things you don't use as much, put them up higher. The best thing you can do is get as much stuff off the ground as possible.
These top shelves are the perfect place for Katie to display all of her unique hats, boots and pocketbooks. There's a green one, a zebra one...
Dawn Link, Resolutions
"Then this one that looks like a watering can."
A table adds some workspace.
Dawn Link, Resolutions
"She has good lighting. She can work on her beading. She can work on her sewing."
Even Katie's kitties now have their own private place.
Katie Atchley, homeowner
"This is the kitty cat condo that I built so that I can have the electronic kitty litter, and all that stuff hidden from view."
This room is now pu-r-r-r-fectly organized!
Katie Atchley, homeowner
"I'm really happy with how it turned out. And everything, we got it off the floor and up on the walls and put the shelves in and that's what was my ultimate desire."
This room cost about $2,700 to organize. Katie says she loves the space, a space that's giving an already creative woman new inspiration.
