Room For Improvement reports

In today's "Room For Improvement," we go home for the holidays as our design team makes a charming European-style farmhouse twinkle for the season. 7's Lauren Przybyl shows us their special touches.

‘Tis the season to deck the halls, and the Kaniclides family is ready to bring classic Christmas beauty to their West Newbury home.

Gayle Kaniclides, homeowner
"We really wanted sort of an old traditional, New England Christmas feel to it."

When it's time to trim the house, Melanie Murphy of "Redecorating By Melanie" joins Gayle and Jim to provide some holiday help.

The family wanted to accent and highlight the beautiful stone exterior of their home using subtle and elegant decor.

Gayle Kaniclides, homeowner
"We just knew that we really wanted to stay with something very understated."

To achieve the look, lots of lush greenery and pinecones are wrapped around posts by the garage and front doorway.

"The homeowners wanted something very natural, very organic."

A wreath created with birch and ostrich feathers is just the right touch for the front door.

Then, out come more lights. Jim helps Melanie brighten up the garden.

To give the home that New England feel, some delightful decorations were then carefully laid throughout the front yard.

"We used some sleighs and some ski shoes. We wanted something very traditional, something that brought you back in time to the old way of decorating."

And to add a little more holiday shine, Melanie places a winter white throw and two shimmering pillows on the front bench.

A few more special touches are put in place. Tiny children's snow boots are left on the front porch, while single candles glow from the windows.

And when the sun sets, this holiday home glimmers under the night sky.

Now, let's see if this is what the Kaniclides family had on their Christmas wish list.

Gayle and Jim Kaniclides, homeowners
"It's beautiful. Wow. This looks great."

While this home was decorated on a grand scale, our "Room For Improvement" designers say white holiday lights can go a long way and make any home look spectacular for the season.
