Room For Improvement reports

In today's "Room for Improvement," our design team gets creative to spice up a guestroom. 7's Lauren Przybyl heads to Waltham for the makeover.

In this Waltham bedroom, every wall has a piece of furniture on it. Eeyore and his friends don't seem to mind, but homeowner Brooke Hayward says that for her birthday she wants a change.

Lauren Przybyl, 7News
"Brooke, a little birthday treat for you. Go ahead and make a wish. I'm sure your wish was for a new, beautiful guest room."

Brooke Hayward, homeowner
"Yes."

Lauren Przybyl, 7News
"Tell me what you're looking for."

Brooke Hayward, homeowner
"I was just looking to update my hand-me-down college furniture and make a nice welcoming room for guests."

Brooke's only request is that she wants this painting done by her grandmother in the room. She also told us she loves the color orange.

In come Re-Deux designers Carol and Karen. They say the main problem with this 11x11 room is there's just too much stuff in it.

Carol Iberger, Re-Deux Design
"Because Brooke wanted to do so many things, she put too many things in there. That really distracts from the overall usage."

Paint called perfect mint goes on. And a French door with windows helps open up the room.

Then comes the focal point, a special sleeper sofa. It has a unique pillowtop mattress on it, so when guests come to visit, they will feel right at home.

A large computer, TV armoire is added.

Space saving shelves are them mounted to the walls.

A piece of our homeowner's old furniture gets a new look and is refinished with paint and new hardware.

Lauren Przybyl, 7News
"The budget for this room was $3,500. Our designers spent $3,400. I think Brooke's grandma would be proud."

The special painting then gets a special place on the wall.

Brooke, come on in.

Brooke Hayward, Homeowner
"Oh my gosh, it's orange. Oh, I love it. Wow"
