Overcharged at Starbucks
Starbucks customers.. taking some lumps due to a venti-sized glitches in the coffee chain's accounting system. If you bought coffee or anything else from one of 7,000 stores nationwide, you were overcharged! So how did it happen and what happens now? 7's Hank Phillippi Ryan has the "Real Deal."
If you purchased one large latte, you may have been charged for two. And if you ordered a double espresso, it's likely you got charged for a quadruple.
Over Memorial Day weekend Starbucks payments processing system went haywire. They admit up to a million customers who paid with a credit or debit card were charged twice as much as they should have been!
Starbucks says:
"...due to a settlement processing error, some Starbucks customers were inadvertently charged twice for their credit/debit card purchases."
Problem is customers couldn't know it looking by at their receipts, they were on the money. Starbucks says the problem happened later in the processing. The only way you'd know is to check your bank statement
The good news Starbucks now tells us they've fixed the problem, and adjusted everyone's accounts. Officials say:
"We resolved the problem and customers should have seen resolution on their statements by the end of that week (May 29)."
If you hit a Starbucks over Memorial Day weekend, you might want to give your bank statement a quick once-over to make sure if you were charged twice, you've been given your refund.
