Parent to Parent reports

Mother's Day is right around the corner, and many moms are looking forward to that day of rest and pampering. But some local mothers say the key to being the best mom you can be is finding more time to rest all year round.

With so much to do, and so little time, it's easy for moms to get overwhelmed.

Katrin Schumann, Mothers Need Time-Outs, Too
"We're all trying to do too much and I think that it's especially difficult for mothers because they really are trying to be everything to everyone."

Anne Nolen of Dover and Katrin Schumann of Dedham, both mothers, say they have found a simple solution to the stresses of motherhood.

Anne Nolen/Author, Mothers Need Time-Outs, Too: "Push the pause button. You don't need to be on that treadmill 24-7, and take a time-out for yourself."

They emphasize mom's shouldn't feel guilty about setting aside alone time.

"If you keep up your own life, then you can be a better mom for your kids. You're more patient and you can live in the here and now with them, you have more energy with them. It's not really about you and your husband going off and getting a fancy dinner, or going on a vacation, or something like that. This is really about small every day things."

For Anne, simply taking a walk is enough to help her feel re-charged, and both women agree, a happy mom is the best mom.

"Mothers have to make a commitment to their own health and happiness. This is a long, long journey, we're in it for the rest of our lives, and I think mothers need to find a way to step back and not always give of themselves 110 percent."
