If you suffer from regular aches and pains, you're not alone. One technique with an unusual name is bringing many people relief.

Dr. Kelly Delorey is a chiropractor, but when she strained her back working on patients she thought she might need surgery. That is, until she tried Rolfing.

"I'm all about what it takes to prevent surgery. We work with bones, but Rolfing works with the soft tissue. It's really helped my posture in my work," Delorey said.

Named after its creator, Dr. Ida P. Rolf, Rolfing reshapes the body by manipulating the soft tissue.

"We work with the connective tissue, which covers your muscles and bones and organs," said Certified Rolfer, Laura Curry.

Curry says when that tissue gets constricted through everyday use of our body or through trauma, it can pull joints out of alignment.

"That's what gives you poor posture, that's what gives you pain. I'm trying to release that, open it up with my hands so that your body becomes more free," said Curry.

Many of Curry's patients are seeking relief from conditions such as back and neck pain, Scoliosis, TMJ, and even Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. But instead of just focusing on specific trouble spots, Rolfing works with the entire body.

"I'm not chasing symptoms, I'm looking to balance your entire body, top to bottom, front to back, inside and out," said Curry.

And for Kelly, Rolfing's made a difference.

"There were days when I would walk in, literally bent over," said Kelly. "And when I would leave, I would be upright again. It's really made a huge difference," said Kelly.

Rolfing experts say it takes about ten sessions to reach its full effect. But it's not cheap, it runs between $150 and $200 per session. Rolfing is not for everyone, so you might want to talk to your doctor before trying it.
