Gretta's Got It! Gyrotonic workout
Have you always wanted an all star body? Well, then you need to check out the gyrotonic workout! Our Style Reporter Gretta Monahan tells us that it's not only the celebrity secret to looking and staying young, anybody at any fitness level can do it and, "Gretta's Got It."
Gretta Monahan
"Looking to change up your workout? Well you're in luck because this new routine is a celeb insider secret that keeps them looking hot."
And because of it Hollywood's leading ladies like Madonna, Nicolette Sheritan and Kim Catrall are not even close to being passed their prime.
Gretta Monahan
"It's called gyrotonic and it uses machines to buff, tighten, and tone."
Kathy Vanpatten, Boston Body Works Studios
"It's a unique movement system, an exercise system that is based on elements of gymnastics, swimming, tai chi, dance and yoga."
But while it may look like a medieval torture device, these pulley based exercises make up a total body workout without agony.
Kathy Vanpatten, Boston Body Works Studios
"It reduces stress, increases your cardiovascular, improves posture, it's anti-aging."
Anti-aging?? That's all I need to hear to give it a try! And Kathy Van Patten is going to show me the ropes.
Gretta Monahan
"Ok, and what is that working?"
Kathy Vanpatten, Boston Body Works Studios
"Her arms, her torso, abdominals, legs, everything."
Now it's my turn... a few moves and you feel it working instantly.
Gretta Monahan
"It feels good! It feels like a big stretch, but I can feel that my belly is going to hurt later."
This workout focuses on your core and spine.
Kathy Vanpatten, Boston Body Works Studios
"The spine, it's really all about the spine and the more supple your spine is the more youthful you are."
In about an hour, we hit every body part, arms, legs, back, belly and derriere. Ok, not only is this unlike any workout I have every done, it's a blast! I like to think of it as a jungle gym for grown-ups. Gyrotonic was created about forty years ago by a Romanian dancer after an injury so anybody at any fitness level can do it!
Kathy Vanpatten, Boston Body Works Studios
"People with joint replacements all the way to Olympic athletes and principal dancers."
Gretta Monahan
"And with only three thousand studios in the U.S., we're lucky to have the work out in Boston. So if you can't make it to the studio or you don't have equipment at home, no worries. You can still get the benefits of gyrotonic fitness at home."
A few simple moves on the floor simulate the workout.
Gretta Monahan
"So no matter what your favorite sport, this is the perfect workout for every age and every fitness level."
