Boston's Irish Film Festival
You can celebrate Boston's Irish tradition with the eighth annual Magners Irish Film Festival. 7's Romeo has a sneak peek.
The very best of Ireland and the Irish hit the hub, Boston's Irish Film Festival, comes to town.
According to festival director Peter Flynn, it's the largest event of its kind in the U.S.
"A lot of film was being made in Ireland, but the vast majority wasn't being released here," Flynn says. "The American market was saturated enough as it is. The festival will screen over 30 feature, documentary and short films,
many showing for the first time right here in Boston. It's s a very diverse Irish population here. And then, of course, we
wanted to get this cinema out to Americans, who might not know much about the culture."
This year's line up will include the winner of this year's best documentary, "Home," a film about an Irish emigrant living in New York City. You can also catch the year's best animation, the hilarious "Badly Drawn Roy."
"Not a lot of people know this, but Ireland has a thriving animation industry," says Flynn. "There's a lot of great innovative stuff coming out of Ireland."
He goes on to say, there is something for everyone.
"If you are curious about Ireland and the Irish and have any interest in good cinema, come out to Harvard Square, and you'll see some really great films," says Flynn.
Boston's Irish Film Festival runs now through November 12.
