Interview: Jordan Knight

Once "Hanging Tough" with the New Kids on the Block (NKOTB), Boston’s own Jordan Knight is still making music. He took some time to talk about the city he loves and his new album with 7's Romeo.

Before there was *NSYNC and long before Backstreet was back, there were the New Kids on the Block. Today, members of that band have gone their separate ways, but Jordan Knight is still sticking close to home.

Romeo, 7News
"I normally welcome people, I say, ‘welcome to Boston.' You know big celebrities and stuff, ‘welcome to Bolyston Street,' but you know it."

Jordan Knight, singer
"I do know it. I used to live… right next to the Prudential for years."

And he still does live in the Bay State, but he keeps a pretty low profile.

Jordan Knight, singer
"Now, I'm all settled in with my family in Milton, and you know I just cut the grass and take out the trash."

Romeo, 7News
"You are domesticated now."

Jordan Knight, singer
"Yeah, I'm a very domesticated guy."

Domesticated maybe, but he's still making new music. Knight, who took some time to show us around his favorite spots in Beantown, has a new album that hit stores this week.

Romeo, 7News
"Let's go check out your new CD. It just came out this week. Let's go to Newbury Comics."

Jordan Knight, singer
"Cool, yeah I like Newbury Comics."

Romeo, 7News (pointing at Knight's new CD)
"So there it is."

Jordan Knight
"There it is."

Romeo, 7News
"Right in the front of the store when you walk in. That's nice."

Jordan Knight, singer
"But see every artist needs to do this -- needs to go to every store, take your album and go like this. Cover them all up so the whole row is you."

His new disc has some originals and some classic 80s tunes, including a duet with Debbie Gibson.

Romeo, 7News
"Did your wife inspire any of these songs?"

Jordan Knight, singer
"Of course, all everything on here is about my wife. Everything, even 'Little Drummer Boy.' That's the bonus track."

Despite moving on with a solo music career, the days of New Kids on the Block still bring back memories. But don't expect a reunion tour.

Romeo, 7News
"What do you think New Kids reunion?"

Jordan Knight, singer (pointing at a NKOTB CD)
"Everyone's talking about it except these guys here."

Romeo, 7News
"Well all right. Cool man. Best of luck with the album. Jordan Knight, it was good to meet you."

Jordan Knight, singer
"Good to meet you too."

Romeo, 7News
"In Boston I'm Romeo, 7News."
